Beniam

Fashion designer Beniam, born in Addis Ababa Ethiopia came to the New York in 1989. His fashion sense came from his mother; she had a small clothing shop where she sewed children's clothing as well as dresses for neighborhood women, most of the time for free. Having a sewing machine at home helped not only Beniam but all of his brothers and sisters to learn to sew, alter and be creative on their clothes as well as their friend's clothing.

Since coming to New York, Beniam attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, to further develop his knowledge of the fashion industry. Over the years he has held numerous fashion shows in NYC and DC areas. He has appeared on one of the top Ethiopian fashion magazines. Aside from designing clothing he is a columnist and fashion correspondent for HELM magazine.
